Stars of the Bighorns is not associated with any organization or school district. It is organized and supported by volunteers in the community who work with people with special needs.

There is no cost for the Stars of the Big Horns event because of our wonderful sponsors. The only cost for a guest is their formal attire.

A local florist has volunteered their time and supplies to make boutonnieres and corsages. When guests arrive at the event, volunteers will find the “best fit” flower piece for the guests and attach it accordingly.

At registration, guests may sign up for beauty or salon services. Some beauticians at Ginger Salon have donated their time and resources to make your guest feel and look their best! Parents/guardians will be notified one week prior.

Stars of the Big Horns will have a limo that guests may ride to the Barn in Bighorn for the event. (This is optional and up to the caregiver’s discretion). Guests will ride the limo with other guests and make a grand entrance into the event hall. The limo may not have adult volunteers to support guests during the ride. Instead, peer helpers may be on the limo to provide support and encourage safe behavior.
Guests will be picked up at Perkins’s parking lot between 4:50 - 5:15.
(Parents will need to check in their guest when dropping off at the limo and indicate whether they will be picking up at the venue or riding the trolley back to Ole’s at the end of the event.)

Stars of the Bighorns does not officially host this event. If you would like to attend dinner prior to the main event, please reach out to Amy Andrews or Lisa Haugen, who will provide you with further information.

All honored guests will need to be Checked In and Out by a parent/guardian. A designated volunteer will have a list of guests present to take attendance.

Chic With A Cannon will be photographing the event. A photograph from the grand march will be printed at a later date and sent home.
All other photographs will be shared on our Facebook or website photo page. (photo rights were given at registration)

WHAT WILL THE NIGHT LOOK LIKE FOR MY GUEST:
ARRIVAL- 5:30
Guests will arrive either on the limo or by a parent/guardian. Guests will be greeted by a cheering crowd and escorted inside the barn by a volunteer to be prepped for the Grand March. Parents/guardians, family and friends will gather around the Grand March aisle and await to cheer on their honored guest. All parents/guardians are to “Check In” their honored guest. At this time please be sure to identify a pick up person for the volunteer to note in order for us to release them into their care should the parent/guardian not be able to do so or if they will be riding the trolley back.

GRAND MARCH - 6:00
Guests will pose for their professional photo. They will then walk down the aisle with a peer helper. While they walk, a DJ will announce facts about each guest that were noted at registration.

SPOTLIGHT - 6:30
After the Grand March, there will be time for the honored guests, family and friends to socialize. During this time, volunteers will be available to take group and family photos at a designated area.
Some volunteers will have polaroid cameras to allow photos to be given to the honored guests right away. Other volunteers will be available to take photos on family and friend’s own devices. All family and friends will be asked to leave at 7:30 for the dance to start.

DANCE - 7:00
The dance will have a professional DJ playing today’s hits, classic dance hits, and all requested songs listed at registration. Same-age peer helpers will be out on the dance floor encouraging everyone’s involvement.

DEPARTURE -8:45
Parents/guardians will return to the Barn in Bighorn to pick up their honored guests. Each guest will have a “Swag Bag” to bring home with them. All parents/guardians are to check each honored guest out with the volunteer.
OTHER
WHY AM I ASKED TO LEAVE MY GUEST OF HONOR THROUGHOUT THE DANCE?:
Our intent is not to make any parent/guardian uncomfortable, but we believe all teenagers need time away. We recognize that parents and close family/friends are a high interest so focus may be centered towards them instead of it being more of a social experience. We have plenty of familiar support staff and same aged peer helpers to help your guest. If any concerns do arise, a volunteer will call that guest’s parent/guardian.

(There is a great pizza place next door to the Barn if you feel like you don’t want to venture too far away.)

WHAT IF MY GUEST OF HONOR IS OUTSIDE THE AGE RANGE?
12-21 is a general age for our attendees. However, we want ALL kids that are in junior high or high school to attend, therefore if they are 12 or 22 and are still enrolled in secondary school they are welcome to attend the event.

WHAT ARE THE TICKETS FOR?
Each guest of honor will receive a page full of tickets to ask their favorite people to come and watch them shine at the event! They will need to cut out the tickets and give them to any family member or friend they wish. If your guest needs more tickets, please email us or contact his/her special education teacher to obtain more.
